Fabric Sketch Book Cover

Last week we found out one of my son’s play group friends was diagnosed with leukemia. She’s four years old.

As much as I’ve always tried to empathize with families going through this kind of struggle, I’m really having trouble wrapping my mind around the reality of the situation. It’s just too close to home. No kid, or family, should have to go through this. Thankfully, the moms in our play group are fantastic and everyone is rallying around our friend and her family, helping out with offers of child care, homemade meals for the freezer, gas cards and hospital parking passes, and other donations to keep this family going during a really tough time. Even the kids are getting in on the act, contributing art work to be put in a special book that will be delivered to the hospital. The book is a basic sketch book from Michael's, but we decided to jazz it up with a fabric cover and tulle tie to keep it shut when it’s bursting with kid pictures!sketch book cover front
It turned out pretty well, especially for a middle of the night project. Usually when I think something is going to be easy, it turns out to be tricky. Not in this case…the cover is one piece of fabric with a bit of tulle stitched to it. Seven lines of stitching total. Nice!

Inside, we used Heat-n-Bond to add the little girl’s name, just for fun.

Our friend has just started a month of chemotherapy and sickness. Please send some healing thoughts and prayers her way. Linked to: Photobucket

  1. Oh how awful. I also have difficulty wrapping my head around situations like this. My heart goes out to that little girl and her family. No family should have to go through this. I hope that she has found excellent treatment providers, she is definitely in my thoughts and prayers during this truly dark hour.
